Beauty in Vulnerability

I don’t normally do book reviews…and I haven’t even finished this book, but I attended a conference and heard Brene Brown speak. Her TED    talks have aparently gone bananas all around the world. Worth a look.
WHY HERE ON RUBIWOMEN?
Brene talks about vulnerability….not the kind of vulnerability we typically think of (ie vulnerability = weakness), but vulnerability as our most  accurate measure of courage….as the source of all the emotions we desire to experience…as the birthplace of creativity and  innovation. Because in this blog we are all about real beauty, this struck a note with me. Vulnerability is strength, and strength is beauty. Isn’t it  the vulnerability in people that we are drawn to? But isn’t it the vulnerability in ourselves that we so want to hide?
Brene says ” our capacity for greatness will never be as great as our openheartedness”….so my challenge and encouragement to myself and  anyone who is listening, is to be open to be open (that’s not a typo!). To seek to be real, above being great. To find beauty and strength in our vulnerability, and to encourage (and be kind to) the vulnerability in others.
